DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -

The Foundation for Seminole State College of Florida is awarding a college student for his help in rescuing three children.

Stacy Robinson, 21, was given the award Tuesday for his role in helping get the children out of a minivan that went into the ocean.  The scholarship is worth $1,000.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Robinson said it was a "good feeling" receiving the scholarship he had no idea about.

Police say Ebony Wilkerson (below) is accused of driving the minivan into the Atlantic Ocean off Daytona Beach.  Robinson witnessed the event and ran to help.

Wilkerson's three children ages three, nine and 10, were inside the van.  Robinson helped pull the children out as the van started to submerge into the water.

According to a police report, Wilkerson told them she had been abused by her husband. Wilkerson is pregnant.

Police have charged her with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of child abuse charges.  She is currently at the Halifax Health Medical Center for care.
