Surveillance captures takedown of fleeing driver

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Marion County deputy and his K-9 took down a driver who led them on a high speed chase that was caught on surveillance.

Deputy Peterson and his trainee Deputy Peterson were driving south on SW 62nd Avenue when they noticed a blue Honda parked on the shoulder of the road, blacked out but flashing lights at them.

Deputy Peterson turned around to check out the vehicle, but the driver took off at a high rate of speed, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The pursuit continued until the deputies lost sight of the vehicle on SW 117th Lane. 

A third deputy located the vehicle at SW 115th Street and SW 62nd Avenue and the driver continued to flee, according to MCSO.

Air-1 arrived to help in the search and recorded surveillance video of the pursuit.

The driver lost control of his vehicle as he was turning onto a street and crashed into a flag pole and shrubs at a home.

The driver Randy Morales, 26, got out of his vehicle and ran off, according to deputies.

Morales was apprehended by Deputy Donahue and a K-9 named Tipster.
