'Survival' poster created to guide young people

The "10 Rules Of Survival If Stopped By Police" were created by David Miller, the founder of Dare to be King out of Baltimore, Maryland.  Miller created these rules as part of curriculum to educate young men about how to behave during police encounters.

Miller says he travels all over the country teaching young men to reach for majestic heights in their lives.  This is just one tool in a series of workshops that he says will not only help young men survive but thrive through the many challenges they face in life.

Rule #1: Be polite and respectful when stopped by the police. Keep your mouth closed!

Rule #2: Remember that your goal is to get home safely. Use the above rules to help do that. If you feel that your rights have been violated, you and your parents have the right to file a formal complaint with your local police jurisdiction.

Rule #3: Don't under any circumstance, get into an argument with the police.

Rule #4: Always remember that anything you say or do can be used against you in court.

Rule #5: Keep your hand in plain sight and make sure the police can see your hands at all times.

Rule #6: Avoid physical contact with the police. No sudden movements & keep hands out of your pockets.

Rule #7: Do not run even if you are afraid of police.

Rule #8: Even if you believe that you are innocent, do not resist arrest.

Rule #9: Don't make any statements about the incident until you are able to meet with a lawyer or a public defender.

Rule #10: Stay calm and remain in control. Watch your words, body language and emotions.
