Putnam County detectives arrest man on first-degree murder charges

INTERLACHEN, Fla. – Detectives arrested a 33-year-old man Thursday accused of fatally shooting a 26-year-old Interlachen man.

Eric Santiago's body was found in the 100 block of Caribbean Street about 5:30 a.m.

Putnam County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Porfirio Correa Torres, 33, for the murder of Santiago.

Deputies said the arrest, which took place Thursday at 6:30 p.m., was made as a result of the continuing investigation into the shooting death of Santiago.

"I am very proud of the excellent police work done by the men and women of the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit in quickly and efficiently completing their investigation and making this arrest," said Sheriff Jeff Hardy.

Torres was transported to the Putnam County Jail where deputies said he was booked on one count of first-degree murder, and is being held with no bond.
