Suspect body slams cop onto hood of patrol car

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Gainesville police officer was body slammed onto the hood of a patrol car Friday morning by a suspect in an aggravated assault, the Gainesville Police Department said.

Tobreis Fields, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting an officer with violence and one count each of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cocaine and resisting an officer without violence.

Police attempted to make contact with Fields, who was the suspect in an aggravated battery and assault, at the Southern Pines apartments on SW 17th Place. Officers found him fleeing the area and they said he refused to obey their verbal commands.

Fields attacked Officer Miguel Bekkevold, an Army veteran, grabbing him below the waist, holding him over his head and slamming him onto the hood of a patrol vehicle. Bekkevold suffered minor injuries and the patrol car received minor damage.

Bekkevold deployed his Taser and he and another officer were able to arrest Fields.

Bekkevold found 0.4 grams of crack cocaine inside Fields' vehicle.

Fields was booked into the Alachua County Jail without bond.
