Task force find $500,000 worth of pot growing in Putnam County

PALATKA, Fla. – A team of law enforcement officers found about 500 marijuana plants were found Tuesday growing in a rural area off Citron Avenue, south of Crescent City, Putnam County.

A task force that includes the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the United States Customs and Border Protection was conducting marijuana eradication operations trying to find and destroy outdoor marijuana grows in open fields when they came across the plants.

The seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $500,000.

No suspects were located as a result of Tuesday's operation, but citizens were encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office with any information regarding the location of marijuana grow operations or those cultivating the illegal crops.

"Today's operation is an excellent example of multiple law enforcement agencies bringing their resources together in a cooperative effort," said Sheriff Jeff Hardy.

The Sheriff's Office says it participates in these types of operations routinely.
