Officers with the St. Augustine Beach Police Department and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office joined in the investigation following the report of several vehicle burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours Wednesday.

All of the burglaries and thefts occurred on Willow Drive to unlocked vehicles or garages.

Deputies said Powell took a scooter as well as a 2002 Lexus RX 300 from a resident, along with other items from other vehicles.

Investigators said Powell was identified through video surveillance at a U.S. 1 South Walmart while purchasing items with a stolen credit card. The stolen vehicle was located in the parking lot at 200 S. Woodlawn St.

Powell was found inside an apartment at the same location and was taken into custody without further incident, deputies said.

Detectives with the two agencies are continuing the investigation.
