ORANGE PARK, Fla. -

Deputies in Clay County are investigating an incident in which a shot was fired among a group of dozens of juveniles Saturday night outside an Orange Park Chick-fil-A.

Investigators said there was a fight outside the Orange Park Mall and AMC 24 theatre on Wells Road about 9:30 p.m. and the crowd was forced to leave the property.

About 40-50 juveniles left and went instead to the Chick-fil-A restaurant across the street, deputies said.

A short time later, deputies received calls reporting shots fired outside the restaurant. They said the first deputy arrived and a 14-year-old boy fled from him. He was pursued on foot by the deputy and arrested, but his identity was not released.

Deputies said they do believe a shot was fired, but at this time no charges have been filed related to that and it remains unclear who was responsible. They said a gun was not recovered and no one was injured.

Additional patrol units were quickly sent to the restaurant and the crowd of juveniles dispersed, deputies said. They said the group did cause property damage, including broken glass on doors and overturned furniture, to the restaurant.

Deputies said additional arrests are pending. They said no restaurant employees or customers were hurt.

Investigators said there is no evidence at this time that indicates the activity was planned or that this was an organized event. They said they don't know if the juveniles are connected in any way to the crowd that caused a disturbance at a Jacksonville movie theatre several months ago on the Northside.

In response to this incident, however, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler has assigned additional uniformed and plain-clothed personnel to the Wells Road corridor area who will have a zero-tolerance approach in regard to this type of behavior in the future, the Sheriff's Office said.

Anyone with any information about this incident or the people involved is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-264-6512.
