Teenagers seriously hurt in early morning crash

FHP: Truck was swerving intentionally

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A teenager is in serious condition after a car crash in Columbia County. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Roger Dale Cothran III, 17, was driving northbound on SW Fry Avenue in Fort White around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The 2003 Dodge Ram 4-Door veered to the right and hit an embankment.  The impact made the truck turn over twice. 

It landed with the front of the vehicle in a planted field and a the back of the car hanging out into the roadway.

Cothran was thrown from the car and landed in that field. He was not wearing a seat belt. 

He and a passenger, Brendan Richard Moomaw, 16, were flown to Shands UF in Gainesville with serious injuries. 

FHP reports Cothran was traveling above the speed limit and was swerving his vehicle on the roadway intentionally.

A second passenger, Amber Jade Olson, 14, suffered only minor injures.
