Teen's jaw wired shut after attack across from UCF campus

ORLANDO, Fla. – A freshman at the University of Central Florida said he was robbed and beaten at his apartment complex right across the street from the university.

Khandakar Ahsan, 19, just got out of the hospital and his jaw is wired shut. He spoke with Local 6 after he says two men attacked him, punching him twice in the face. He said his jaw is broken in two places.

"Before I even turned all the way around they punched me on the side and I fell," said Ahsan.

He said it happened inside the parking garage at "The Marquee," which used to be called Sterling Central Apartments.

"I tried fighting back a little bit, but at that time the second guy took my money out of my wallet. I only had $5 on me."

After the incident, management at The Marquee sent out a letter to residents claiming there was no robbery or police report filed. The letter went on to say it was a physical altercation.

"That is not OK, especially saying it was a physical altercation. They're pretty much saying that I started this or had something to do with this, and that's screwed up, you know?" Ahsan said.

On Wednesday, management sent out a second letter informing residents they have since learned an incident report was filed with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and they were working on getting a copy.

It's the third robbery deputies have investigated at the complex since October, and Ahsan said despite the change in management, it's quickly getting a bad reputation.

"This has happened way too many times in the last month alone," Ahsan said. "I feel like people who want to rob someone automatically come to Sterling because it's so easy."
