JACKSONVILLE. Fla. – The Ortega neighborhood has recently been targeted by thieves who have been breaking into several homes and cars.
Neighbors say someone is going around at all hours of the day and night taking anything that is out in the open.
One of the victims who says enough is enough, wants to see more officers in the area.
Things have gotten so bad in the neighborhood that residents said someone's car was even stolen.
According to Brittany Jasinsky an Ortega resident, this Old Ortega neighborhood has been shaken within the past month.
“It's just concerning being a family neighborhood, in the suburbs,” Jasinsky said. “This is where people come to raise their family and having this going on at night and having nothing done about it is a legitimate concern.”
Despite multiple, visible alarm systems in front yards, Jasinsky said someone continues to try their luck by jiggling car door handles in this quiet neighborhood.
“I personally had my own car broken into. A GPS stolen, cash stolen, I've had packages stolen off my porch during the night, my neighbors had their car broken into and we haven't had anything done about it,” Jasinsky said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says officers are currently investigating the individual reports.
However, no suspect has been caught which is why Jasinsky and her neighbors want to see more of a police presence in hopes of deterring the criminal.
“I'd like to see a car maybe once a day if that's too much, every other day,” Jasinsky said. “But I just want to see more presence out here so that if there's a being walking around during the day even trying to check what house they're going to go to, maybe they see the police car and maybe it's a deterrent.”
Anyone who has any information on who may be responsible for these crimes can leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers. The number is 1-866-845-TIPS. You could be eligible for a cash reward.
