Things that could be affecting your memory

Your brain operates on the same amount of power as a 10-watt light bulb and can hold five times as much information as the encyclopedia Britannica.  If it's so powerful then why do we seem to forget so much? You can usually trace your forgetfulness back to lack of sleep or stress , but what if that isn't the reason?

If your thyroid is on the fritz, it can lead to a lagging memory.  Although it has no specific connection to the brain your thyroid controls your metabolism and when levels are too high or low, it can affect memory and concentration.

A vitamin B12 deficiency can also lead to memory loss. B12 helps make blood cells that maintain the nervous system. Vegans are especially at risk, because B12 is only found in animal products.

Foods that can help your memory include vegetable based salad dressing, peanut butter and whole grains, which are loaded with vitamin E and even though it's shown to improve memory, research shows vitamin E supplements don't help.

Drinking green tea can also help by increasing growth of new brain cells to aid in learning and retaining new information.
