Tipsters say they've seen wanted sex offender

Man sought after police say he committed lewd act at yoga studio

Joseph Jordan, a registered sex offender, was spotted on the UNF campus Sunday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Several tips have come in to News4Jax about a sex offender being sought by police having been spotted in several areas around Jacksonville.

Police said 42-year-old Joseph Jordan is wanted in connection with performing an unnatural and lascivious act at a San Marco yoga facility Sunday. Joseph was spotted earlier in the day on the University of North Florida's campus.

Some people have told News4Jax they've seen Joseph out near the beach, while others said he's been spotted in south Mandarin.

Allen Rickey and Kyle Sutton said they saw Jordan in a Beach Boulevard Walmart on Tuesday.

"I looked over in the checkout, and as soon as I looked up, I was like, 'That's definitely the guy,'" Rickey said.

"I just walked into Walmart, checking out, and saw the news and what was going on, and saw his face on the news -- looked over and thought no way is that him, Allen. He said, 'I think it is,'" Sutton said.

The two said they followed the man down Beach Boulevard and called 911. They last saw him at a bus stop and assumed police found him.

"Kind of random, I thought," Sutton said. "(Rickey) has a daughter, and with characters out there, it's just something you got to watch out for and be prepared for."

That's not the only reported sighting. Some students at Mandarin High School claim to have seen Jordan hanging around near their school bus stop at Old St. Augustine and Hood roads, and it made them nervous. But they didn't call police.

This all comes after police said Jordan was kicked out of a San Marco yoga studio, where police said he committed a lewd act during a yoga class. The owner said she removed him from the class before any students really noticed what was happening.

Since police said Jordan has also caused a campus-wide alert after being spotted at UNF, News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith said police are likely trying to find out if he's using a car or other modes of transportation.

"It's a lot easier if a person is driving in a vehicle, because you have a vehicle description and tag," Smith said. "But if they know areas he frequents, being on a bicycle may be easier because he's more exposed and you can get a clear access to him."

Anyone with information on Jordan's whereabouts is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500, Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
