DCF: Toddler left unattended while mom got snacks drowns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A toddler who died Saturday evening after falling into a pool in the city’s Greenland neighborhood near Mandarin High School was left alone with his siblings while his mother went to get snacks, according to state officials.

The Department of Children and Families said Zaid Keswani, 2, fell in the pool just after 1 p.m. at a home on Collins Creek Drive and was found floating at the bottom of the pool after he and his siblings were left unattended.

Zaid was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

Homicide detectives are investigating.

The home was surrounded by a crime scene investigation van, multiple police cruisers and crime scene tape while investigators worked.

News4Jax spoke with a neighbor, Carolina Scorza, who said she doesn’t know much about the people who live in the home, as they just moved in about a week ago.

"I have two grandkids. It's just so sad,” Scorza said. “I don't want to be in that situation.”
