Town hall meeting held at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church

Doctor says he's teaching young black men to be successful

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hundreds gathered for a town hall meeting at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with its main theme revolving around preventing tragedies like Trayvon Martin's death.

Through his national outreach group called Operation Save Our Sons, Dr. John Guns said he's teaching young black men to be successful.

Guns said Saturday's town hall brings political, religious and business leaders face to face with young black men with one goal in mind:

"To have enough information to begin to look at how do we build bridges and tear down walls, so that the African American male can be engaged in a healthy way," said Guns. "Ultimately, we can ensure that every young man has an opportunity to succeed."

Guns said he was pleased with Saturday's turnout.
