FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A countywide training between law enforcement, fire and emergency management agencies, as well as Flagler County Public Schools, had a realistic feel Thursday, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

"It's important for everyone to know this is just a training exercise, a large-scale training exercise," Public Safety and Emergency Manager Kevin Guthrie prior to the training drill. "We don't want anyone to be alarmed when they see a large number of emergency vehicles and our FireFlight helicopter in one area."

Student volunteers, who were cleared by the school district in addition to parental consent, participated in the drill. Deputies said parents were given a briefing about the exercise before permission slips were distributed.

"This collaboration is paramount as we strive to conduct an effective drill," Guthrie said. "We wouldn't be able to do that without all of the volunteers, especially the students."

Businesses in the area also received advance notice of the event, deputies said.
