Trees damage house, car after storms

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Several trees were knocked down by a thunderstorm, including one that came through the roof of a house in Orange Park on Thursday afternoon, according to Clay County Fire Rescue.

One woman was at that home in the 400 block of Gano Avenue but was not hurt when the tree hit about 2:20 p.m.

Officials said the tree damaged the roof a

bove the laundry room.

They said other trees fell in the yard but did not hit the home.

Rescuers said another tree crushed a car at Gano and Janell Drive.

More trees fell in the area, but there were no other reports of damage.

"I was actually standing on my back porch watching and the wind was blowing back water all the way over to where I was standing, probably about 10, 15 feet," Doug Henri said. "It was unique, nothing I want to see on a regular basis."

Department of Public Safety officials encourage residents to contact the department at 904-284-7703 to report any damage to structures, vehicles or downed trees that may block roadways.
