Jury seated in trial for detective's killing

Ryan Wilder first of 4 to stand trial in killing of Detective David White

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A jury of 12 and two alternates was seated Monday afternoon for the trial of a man charged with murder in the death of Clay County Detective David White in February 2012.

The jury is made up of 10 women and four men.

White, 35, was killed serving a search warrant at a suspected meth house on Alligator Boulevard in Middleburg.

Investigators said Ted Tilley shot and killed White, then Clay County deputies killed Tilley. White's partner, Matt Hanlin, was shot in the arm and recovered.

Ryan Wilder is the first to be tried for first-degree murder and several counts of attempted murder. Deputies said he, Jennifer Alder, Chasity Prescott and Jerry Daniels were all in the home at the time of the killing. Daniels is the only suspect charged with third-degree murder. All are also facing drug charges.

Attorneys on Monday questioned some of the potential jurors individually.

One of the main questions was about how much media coverage they've seen on the case and if they can put that aside to be fair and impartial.

Most of the potential jurors questioned Monday do not own a firearm. Some of the reasons potential jurors may have a problem serving include: one has frequent heart attacks; another has an oncology appointment; another is getting married Friday and then going on his honeymoon. Attorneys also asked the jury pool if there were any smokers who wouldn't be able to stand not taking frequent breaks.

Attorneys asked if the potential jurors knew anyone involved in this case or if they have family members in law enforcement. or if they had donated to any funds to help White's family.

White was a nine-year veteran of the force. He was an Army veteran and graduate of Middleburg High School. He left behind a wife and two young children.
