Truck crash shuts down I-95
1 driver flown to hospital with critical injures
A trailer detached from the pickup truck towing it south on Interstate 95 on Saturday night, causing several accidents -- one resulting in a critical injury to a Palm Coast man -- and blocking southbound traffic on the interstate for several hours.
According to the Florida Highway patrol, an F-250 pickup driven by Edwin Goodbread, 58, of Port St. Lucie, was a few miles south of the State Road 206 interchange just before 8:25 a.m. when the trailer came loose and overturned.
A Nissan driven by Jesus Pineda-Maldonado, 28, of Flagler County, struck the trailer. Troopers said Pineda had critical injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.
Goodbread and a passenger in his pickup were not injured.
According to the FHP report, the incident resulted in at least two other, minor crashes. Troopers said charges were pending the outcome of the investigation.
All southbound lanes of I-95 remain closed past midnight while crews cleaned up from the wrecks and a resulting diesel fuel spill.
