Truck hits I-95 overpass, blocks MLK Parkway

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All westbound lanes of Martin Luther King Parkway at Interstate 95 reopened Monday evening, hours after after a tractor-trailer struck an overpass.

Jacksonville police said a vehicle following the big rig that hit the overpass was damaged by chunks of falling debris.

The northbound exit ramp from I-95 to MLK was also closed while the Florida Department of Transportation workers investigated the incident, which happened about 2:40 p.m.

DOT inspectors were called to the scene to check for structural damage, but it was quickly determined that there was no treat to I-95 traffic overhead, but the risk of falling debris kept MLK Parkway closed well into the evening.

Police said the company who owned the rig that hit the overpass was cited, but not the driver will not face any charges.
