According to investigators, as the driver merged he lost control of his Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on wet pavement and was struck by an Advanced Disposal garbage truck, which was also traveling westbound.

According to FHP, this Black Tacoma and a garbage truck collided, blocking 2 WB lanes of J. Turner Butler Boulevard near Southside Boulevard.

Both the Tacoma and the garbage truck came to a stop after striking a concrete wall. However, the garbage truck rolled over onto its side after making contact with the wall blocking three westbound traffic lanes.

Troopers said the garbage truck lost very little of its load, but spilled oil onto the roadway. Westbound lanes of J. Turner Butler Boulevard remained closed while crews cleaned up the spill and repaired the roadway.

About 1,000 feet of the eastbound left shoulder west of Southside Boulevard will remain closed until pieces of the damaged wall are removed. The inside westbound lane of J. Turner Butler will also remain closed until the wall is repaired.
