Two hospitalized after Northside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were taken to the hospital after a shooting Saturday afternoon on Jacksonville's Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police were called to the scene on Eartha Drive just before 5:30 p.m. Two people drove by in a car and fired shots.

Investigators said one man was shot in the buttocks and taken to UF Health for treatment. Another person who was also shot also went to UF Health. It's unknown how he or she got there.

For several hours, Eartha drive was filled with police officers and crime scene tape.

Dena Cherry lives in the area. She said after hearing gunshots, she called to check on her mother who lives a few houses down from where the shooting happened. She was okay, but now she's worried for her family's safety.

"My sons play down at that basketball court every day. I'm glad they're gone for the weekend," said Cherry.

Cherry pointed out that these are not grown adults committing crimes, but children still in school.

"These are babies. These are not grown people doing this. These are 17, 18-year-olds," said Cherry. "They should be in their books."

The identities of the two people shot have not been released. Their injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Police are still looking for suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-0500, or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
