Police ID woman killed in Orange Park; search for suspect

Driver of car died, woman passenger injured in early morning shooting

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Police are continuing to investigate a double shooting early Saturday morning that took the life of a 27-year-old mother of two and injured a second woman.

Orange Park police on Monday identified the woman shot and killed while sitting in her car at the Park Place Apartments on Loring Avenue as Jillian Berrios.

The passenger in the car was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with a gunshot wound.  Police say her name is not being released "due to concern for her well-being," but say she is now recovering at home.

Police say a man approached the two women, who were in their vehicle at 5:39 a.m., and began firing. After the shooting, the gunman entered a newer model red hatchback car and sped away, according to police.

Berrios' fiance called her his backbone and rock who had a heart of gold. He has no idea who would kill her or why.

The Orange Park Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are all involved in the investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

Berrios' family has set up a VyStar Credit Union account (7504420184) for donations to help her family.
