United Airlines considering outsourcing jobs

2,000 airport jobs may be affected

United Continental Holdings Inc. (UAL) is considering outsourcing as many as 2,000 jobs at airports across the country as a way to cut costs.

28 cities across the U.S. would be affected, Jacksonville being one of them.

If the company does decide to outsource jobs, the main people affected will be check-in workers, baggage handlers and customer service representatives.

The airline has been trying to cut $2 billion from its annual costs through fuel savings, workforce reductions and other measures since 2013.

No final decisions have been made. Now the union will meet with UAL to try to keep some or all of those jobs within the company.
