A Florida appeals court is shielding University of West Florida President Judy Bense from having to testify in an employment discrimination lawsuit.
A circuit court previously ruled that Bense could be forced to give a deposition in a case filed by Wendy Habegger. The former professor was fired by the university and left her job in 2010. She filed an employment discrimination lawsuit.
Habegger sought to question Bense about whether or not another university employee had given disparaging information about her to the UWF president.
Bense asserted she had talked to the employee but said it came after the professor's contract was terminated. She also contended she did make the decision to fire Habegger.
The 1st District Court of Appeal ruled that Bense's testimony was irrelevant and unnecessary.
