Urban Construction Update - January 2015

Major construction projects have returned to the landscape of Jacksonville's urban core. Find out where (and more) as we take a brief look at the status of various developments under construction in and around Downtown Jacksonville during the month of January.

1. Parador Parking Garage


Future retail build-out if the adjacent Suntrust Tower reaches 65% occupancy.

Vertical construction continues on the Parador parking garage project, at the intersection of Bay and Hogan Streets. The six-story, $10 million structure will contain 607 parking spaces. Street level retail will be added once the adjacent Suntrust Tower reaches 65% occupancy.

2.Palmetto Place


Construction continues on the addition of assisted living dorms added to Palmetto Place at 450 Palmetto Street.

3. Southbank Riverwalk

Reconstruction of the Southbank Riverwalk between Friendship Fountain and the Duval County School Board building continues.

4. Jessie Ball duPont Center

Construction on the $20 million Jessie Ball duPont Center continues to move forward. When complete in early 2015, the Jessie Ball duPont Center will serve as the epicenter for Northeast Florida's philanthropic and nonprofit community. The 120,000 square foot building will act as a hub for local nonprofits, stimulating an environment of collaboration within the sector. Additionally, the four-level facility will include retail, conference/meeting spaces, a green roof, and an outdoor patio/terrace area at the intersection of Ocean and Adams Streets.

5. Beaver Street Villas



LaVilla's long closed New Center Hotel at 605 North Broad Street is being renovated by nearby Clara White Mission into street level offices and 16 upper level apartment units.

6. Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches


Construction continues on a 1,400 square foot space in the Elk's Building for Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches. The restaurant, at the intersection of Adams and Laura Streets, is expected to open in early 2015.

7. State Attorney's Office


Work continues on the $26 million reconstruction of the old courthouse as a new home for the State Attorney's Office. Construction is estimated to be completed in early 2015.

8. New York Steam Laundry Building


Proposed Building Façade

Interior demolition on the redevelopment of the New York Steam Laundry Building is complete. L.B. Jax Development, LLC. plans to convert the 11,000 square foot historic structure into restaurant and office space.

9. Levels


Former New York Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles Jr.'s plans to convert 323-325 East Bay Street into a three-story restaurant called Levels is underway. Described as an "upscale and grown venue," each floor will feature a bar and stage for live music.


10. Super Food & Brew


Buildout is underway at Super Food Truck's new brick & mortar restaurant at the 11 East Forsyth Building. The restaurant is expected to open in Spring 2015.

11. Anytime Fitness


Anytime Fitness is in the process of opening a new gym on the second floor of the Jacksonville Bank Building.
