US Marine pops the question at Jaguars game
Marine asks girlfriend to marry him at EverBank Field
The Jaguars home win over the Texans wasn't the only reason to celebrate for one local couple.
If you were watching after the start of the 4th quarter, then you witnessed a United States Marine's primetime proposal.
The Jaguars invited Marine First Sergeant Chris Hambaugh to kickoff the 4th quarter as part of their traditional Hometown Heroes event. Hambaugh rang the bell, then popped the question in front of thousands at EverBank Field.
"I remember getting down on one knee and all of a sudden, I heard the whole stadium erupt, and what I planned to say and what I'm pretty sure I said was, "From the moment I saw you, I knew you were my soulmate and I want to spend the rest of my life with you and will you marry me?' but I was almost screaming, I was almost yelling as loud as I could and even then I don't think she was really listening," Hambaugh said.
Dawn Waller said she didn't hear anything Hambaugh said.
"I was in a fog, I don't even remember hearing the crowd," Waller said. "When I turned around and saw him on one knee, I don't really care what he's saying, answer yes. He's asking me to marry him one way or another."
Before the couple walked out on the field, Hambaugh didn't want his girlfriend to see the ring box in the pocket of his uniform.
"I didn't want to just have it loose in my pocket because all the horror stories you hear. That's the one thing that can destroy everything, so I gave it to my best friend earlier in the day," Hambaugh said.
Waller said yes. They've only been together for 4 months, but say they know they were meant to be.
"We just clicked from the second we met and we were just both grinning just like, 'We are right now, all smiles,'" Hambaugh said.
