U.S Marshals find escaped fugitive in Brunswick

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Marshals Service has located an escaped inmate from Jesup, Georgia in Brunswick. 

The Marshals said Melvin Nance, 40, who escaped from the Jesup Work Camp on Tuesday was taken back into custody after 11 p.m. Thursday night.

They say he assulted a corrections officer and then ran off into the woods, setting off a search for him.

Nance was convicted in Jacksonville for the distribution of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in November 2009. He was sentenced to 151 months and was not scheduled for release until December 2018.

Marshal say Nance should be considered armed and dangerous. He has 7 previous narcotics offenses and 1 weapons charge. He has a history of resisting arrest and assaulting law enforcement.

Nance is a Jacksonville native. He has several family members and friends that live in the surrounding area.
