2009: Susan Atkins, a convicted murderer who was a member of the "Manson family," dies of natural causes at age 61 at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla, California. Atkins was convicted for her participation in eight of the killings committed by Charles Manson and his followers in 1969, including the most notorious, the "Tate/LaBianca" murders. She was sentenced to death, which was subsequently commuted to life in prison.
