USS Farragut to deploy from Naval Station Mayport

Over 300 sailors to ship out as part of Operation Enduring Freedom

The Mayport-based guided missile destroyer USS Farragut passes by the smoke from a suspected pirate skiff it had just disabled.

MAYPORT, Fla. – Over 300 sailors will say goodbye and ship out as the USS Farragut deploys on Monday.

The guided-missile destroyer will depart from its home port of Naval Station Mayport to join up with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group.

The Farragut is being deployed to help the 5th and 6th U.S. Fleets as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

They will be in charge of conducting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.

Naval Station Mayport is one of the largest naval bases in the United States and is home to more than 10,500 sailors and more than 70 tenant commands, including 18 naval ships, four helicopter squadrons, and the U.S. 4th Fleet.
