USS New York to depart for Mayport

MAYPORT, Fla. – The USS New York will depart Naval Station Norfolk for her new homeport in Mayport on Dec. 4.

This move is part of an amphibious ready group homeport change in support of strategic dispersal and two viable East Coast surface ship homeports.

The homeport change will also ensure the preservation of the ship repair industrial base in both Hampton Roads and Mayport.

USS Iwo Jima and USS Fort McHenry are scheduled to move to Mayport in 2014. Their moves have been aligned to support the ships' work-up schedules as they prepare for deployment.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced June 15, 2012, that USS New York, USS Iwo Jima and USS Fort McHenry will shift from their homeport in Norfolk, Va., to Mayport no later than 2015. The shift was included in the president's FY13 budget.
