Vehicle in fatal hit-and-run either purple or black

Driver of small pickup truck or SUV sought by deputies

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Investigators have determined that the vehicle being sought in the hit-and-run death of a 15-year-old girl in November was metallic purple or black.

Haley Smith was walking with friends on Kenton Morrison Road around 8:30 p.m. Nov. 16 when a driver plowed into her and kept driving.

Investigators are seeking a small pickup or SUV similar to a Chevrolet S-10 pickup or S-10 Blazer that should have damage to the passenger side headlight area and a missing or recently replaced passenger side mirror.

There may also have been damage to the passenger side windshield and passenger side A-pillar, which supports the windshield.

Paint chips located at the scene were analyzed to help indicate the color of the vehicle.
