No vote made to allow alcohol on carriage rides
St. Augustine Commission met Monday night
The St. Augustine City Commission met Monday night to vote on several ordinances, including whether to allow people to drink alcohol on horse-drawn carriages in the historic district.
The City Commission tabled the discussion and said they will discuss the issue at their next meeting on Oct. 28.
If the vote is passed, the carriage driver will be required to hold a valid commercial driver license with a passenger endorsement. This is consistent with Florida statutes.
Most carriage companies believe allowing passengers to drink alcohol will help their business.
"Horse drawn carriage rides are a staple of St. Augustine, one of the tourist attractions where you can tour the city or enjoy a romantic evening," said Bob Bellas with Southern Carriages.
