Ex-Wells Fargo employee arrested on fraud charges

Deputies: 37-year-old fraudulently withdrew money

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A Flagler County man was arrested Friday on three counts of exploitation of the elderly and one count of organized scheming to defraud, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Carmelo David Ortega, 37, now formerly an employee of a local Wells Fargo, was part of an investigation that began after three customers of the bank noticed funds missing from their accounts after meeting with Ortega, deputies said.

According to the investigation begun by St. Johns county Financial Crimes Detective Henry Miller, Ortega is charged with fraudulently withdrawing money from three separate accounts while serving as each party's personal banker.

Ortega is accused of removing $6,000 from the three victims, ages 64, 84 and 86.

Ortega was released from jail after posting $10,000 bond.
