FHP: Woman, 32, killed in crash on Cecil Commerce Center Parkway

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 30-year-old woman was killed Tuesday morning when her Honda Fit crossed the center line of Cecil Commerce Center Parkway and collided with a dump truck, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers identified the victim as Rachel Elizabeth Claasen, of Fernandina Beach.

The crash was reported just before 6:30 a.m. near Normandy Boulevard.

According to FHP, Claasen was driving south on Cecil Commerce Center Parkway when she changed lanes, crossing over the double lines, and continued traveling south in the northbound lane.

Troopers said she then noticed a dump truck traveling toward her and tried to veer right across the double yellow lines into the southbound lane, and the dump truck's driver veered toward the right shoulder, but the front of the left front of the dump truck collided with the left front of the Honda.

Claasen died in the crash. The 42-year-old man driving the dump truck was taken to UF Health with minor injuries, troopers said.

The road was closed for several hours Tuesday morning, but was reopened about 10:30 a.m.

Charges are pending investigation, the Highway Patrol said.
