What's next for Jacksonville water taxi?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The contract the city has with Lakeshore Marine, the operator of the water taxi service, expires Feb. 7, and it's still unclear what the long-term solution might be.

A deal was supposed to be in place by now, but an agreement has not been made.

Last spring, service was stopped when the then-operator pulled out of Jacksonville.

The founder of Beaver Street Fisheries then stepped in and purchased two taxis, which he leased to the city.

Negotiations are underway for another company to buy those taxis, but that deal has not been settled on yet.

Pam Roman, marketing and community relations manager for JaxParks, said the city is continuing its discussions with Lakeshore Marine as to future service.

"We are pleased to report that JTA has offered its support, transportation expertise and technical assistance to help us provide the best possible water taxi service to Jacksonville residents," Roman said. "We will continue to keep you informed of our progress."
