Wildlife officials are investigating a Williston elephant ranch after a woman was injured.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Karen Parker says Diane Bedard of Brooksville received life-threatening injuries during an Aug. 26 incident at Two Tails Ranch.
The Gainesville Sun reports Bedard hasn't been able to speak since the incident. She was at the home of ranch owner Patricia Zerbini, taking pictures of the elephants. She was found on the ground near the cage.
Parker says the agency learned about the incident on Sept. 17 in a complaint from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA officials told the Sun an anonymous tip prompted them to notify the wildlife agency.
Parker says the ranch could be cited for unsafe conditions.
