The tenant said she was cooking and her smoke detector went off.  She originally thought it was from the smoke in the kitchen.

"I went to go fan it off.  I saw an orange light coming out of my room.  My closet was in flames," said Jazmine Jackson.

Jackson called 911 and her boyfriend.  Neighbors came out to help.

"They had a fire extinguisher.  One of them ran up to try and put it out but it ran out.  After that I just waited," said Jackson.

Firefighters arrived within minutes to extinguish the flames.  A couple other units had water damage, according to investigators.

Jackson said she just started back at school.  She plans to stay with her boyfriend's mother until she can figure out what to do next.

"I've never had to deal with anything like this before.  My brain is catching up with the rest of it right now," said Jackson.

The Red Cross is assisting the people affected.
