Woman shot in attempted robbery

JSO: The suspect is still on the run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – A woman is recovering after being shot Monday night during what police believe was an attempted robbery.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the woman called police just after 11:20 p.m. to report she had been shot.  Officers found the woman with a gunshot wound to her upper thigh.

The woman reported that she had been sitting in her car on Golfbrook Drive behind the community center when a younger male approached her vehicle with a gun.  She told officers the suspect demanded her car and money, then shot into the vehicle several times.  She said she was hit with one bullet then drove to a family member's house on West 41st Street where she reported the incident. She told officers the man ran away on foot. 

The woman was taken to UF Health with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The suspect is described as a younger black male dressed in all black. The Robbery Unit is investigating the incident.
