Woman reports assault in St. Johns County home

ST. AUGUSTINE SOUTH, Fla. – A St. Augustine South woman reported that she was assaulted Tuesday afternoon in her home, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the home in the 300 block of Lobelia Road just after 2 p.m.

"I don't know if she was drugged or knocked out but she claims she was attacked at her home," said St. Johns County Sheriff's Office spokesman, Kevin Kelshaw.

"Was she unconscious during this?" asked Channel 4's Hailey Winslow.

"Well that's what she told us, she doesn't remember anything, can't give a description of an individual that did attack her so we're starting from square one," explained Kelshaw.

Kelshaw said the woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to Flagler Hospital. Deputies said she was unable to give any description of her attacker.

Deputies and K-9 officers searched, along with a helicopter, but did not find any suspects.

Neighbors told News4Jax Tuesday night that they saw police in the area and it worried them.

"When I came home there were a bunch of police cars, 2 K-9 units, a helicopter over. There was a police officer walking down the street with an M-16. They went down this way and in these woods they had a K-9 with them and then I think Florida Highway Patrol was at the other end with a K-9," said neighbor, Ed Joyner.

St. Johns County detectives with the Special Victims unit are continuing to investigate the situation and meanwhile have alerted neighbors in the area to the potential crime.

"I wouldn't go into a neighborhood I didn't know. May meet the wrong thing on the other side," said Joyner.

Anyone with any information bout the alleged assault is asked to call Detective Glen English at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-209-2154.
