Woman sentenced to 35 years in 2010 attempted murder
Attorneys: Woman began to argue about selling marijuana, shot victim
A 25-year-old woman was recently sentenced to 35 years in prison on one count of second-degree attempted murder, authorities said.
The State Attorney's Office said Jessie Claire Roberts also received 15 years in prison for sale or possession with intent to sell cannabis while armed and five years for failure of defendant to appear on bail.
In May 2010, a female victim and her friend drove to the Publix on Merrill Road to pick up another friend.
When they arrived, attorneys said Roberts approached the vehicle and began to argue with them about selling marijuana. Roberts then pulled out a handgun, prompting the victim to exit her vehicle.
As the girls continued to argue, Roberts raised her gun and shot the victim, striking her once in the neck, authorities said.
Roberts then left the scene. Officials said the victim has recovered from her injuries.
Roberts was convicted of the charges in December 2013. The State Attorney's Office said the sentences will run concurrently.
