Woman shot by gun in purse at Starbucks

Friend says dad gave her handgun, she forgot it was in her purse

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A Florida woman could face criminal charges after a gun in her purse went off, accidentally shooting her friend in the leg at a local Starbucks.

Pamela Beck, 51, and Amie Peterson, 38, were getting coffee at the Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg on Sunday when Beck went to set her bags down to pay for her drink, according to The Huffington Post.

A .25-caliber handgun in the purse discharged, hitting Peterson in the leg.

Beck told police her father gave the gun to her last year and she had forgotten it was in her purse, UPI reported.

She does not have a concealed weapons permits, so officers referred the case to prosecutors.

Peterson told the Tampa Bay Times she didn't even realize she had been shot until she looked down and saw blood dripping down her leg.

She was treated and released from a nearby hospital.
