Woman shot in the head while driving in East Palatka

Putnam County Sheriff's Office looking looking for dark-colored SUV

EAST PALATKA, Fla. – A 29-year-old woman was shot in the head while riding in an SUV in East Palatka early Saturday morning, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition. An adult man and 1-year-old child in the SUV at the time of the shooting were not injured.

The Sheriff's Office said two vehicles were driving on 207, near U.S. 17, when one SUV pulled up to another one and someone inside fired one shot. That dark-colored SUV was last seen headed northbound on U.S. 17.

Capt. Hancel Woods with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said there's no known motive, but the shooting was an isolated incident.

"These types of things are rarely, as you know, random. There generally is some sort of underlying cause for the particular incident," Woods said.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the vehicle deputies are looking for is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0800.
