Woman steals parrot from Pet World

Caught on surveillance

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – An Oklahoma woman was arrested and charged with grand theft in St. Johns County after stealing a parrot from the Pet World on U.S. 1.

Dawn Griman stood before a judge Saturday after stealing a White-Eyed Conure parrot valued at $600.

Store Owner Danny Conlin said that surveillance captured her looking over her shoulder and grabbing the bird in front of her child.

"It makes me angry to see that someone would teach their children these things. He was obviously very excited about her stealing
the bird," said Conlin.

After seeing the surveillance Conlin then called St. Johns County deputies.

However, just two days later, there was a big break in the case after Conlin's girlfriend, Adrienne Fowler, spotted Griman's car driving right by the store. Fowler then jumped into her car, called 911 and chased Griman down the road.

"It was pure adrenaline when I was following them down the road. The officer is telling me to pull over--you know, the dispatcher.
I just told them that wasn't going to happen," said Fowler.

A short time after, Griman was caught. The bird was found in her front seat.

Now that the parrot is back to his home at Pet World, he was given a new fitting name-- Alcatraz.

After the ordeal, his owners are now certain that they do not want to take a chance of losing him again.

"I almost cried, honestly. It was just a very sweet reunion. As soon as he heard my voice, he started squawking," said Fowler.
