Work makeover; what can make a difference

A new study out from one of the top management consulting firms in the country says if you want to move up at work, you need to spend at least six hours a week with your boss, whether that's in meetings, lunch or just a quick stop into their office. That's just one way to get noticed.

More challenges, more authority, more pay, but how do you get the promotion you want? A few simple changes to your daily routine could make all the difference.

First, make specific goals and keep them visible. Remind yourself each day what you are working towards.

Check your email multiple times a day and give it your full attention so that you don't miss anything important. Reply to every email from your coworkers or boss, even if it's short and sweet.

Next, block off all social media during work. Stay on track without interruptions.
Also, never leave work before your boss. Even if your work is done, ask if others need help.

Finally, never have excuses and stick to your deadlines no matter what. In fact, always beat your deadlines by 24 hours. Every little bit helps make a big impression at work. Also, talk to your boss about your goals for not only yourself, but also for the company.
