Wounded Warrior Project gets clean bill from BBB

BBB review finds charity did not engage in lavish spending practices

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wounded Warrior Project did not engage in lavish spending practices, according to a new report from the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance.

The charity had been under review since early last year when the News4Jax I-TEAM and national media outlets began investigating whistleblower claims of lavish spending by former leaders of the nonprofit.

In regard to claims of big bills at conferences and meetings, the BBB WGA found the organization's spending to be consistent with its programs and mission.

The review also looked at fundraising practices, but found there was no evidence that the charity misled donors about the programs it was funding.

Since the I-TEAM investigation began, nearly 100 employees and executives have been replaced, nine regional offices were closed, up to $200 million in donations were lost and new leadership is in place.

The Wounded Warrior Project is still under review by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
