Man Charged With BUI After Boating Accident

POSTED: Friday, February 29, 2008

The Georgia Department of National Resources has arrested James Long on a charge of boating under the influence after a passenger on Long's boat on a tributary of the St. Marys River was critically injured.

Officials said Long and Charles Maynard were on Burrell Creek on Feb. 17 when Maynard was thrown from the boat. DNR said Maynard came in contact with the boat's propeller.

Maynard remains in critical condition at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.

DNR officers said additional charges could be filed if Maynard's condition worsens.
