Former Kingsland Cop, Camden County Jailer Indicted
POSTED: Friday, June 9, 2006
The Camden County grand jury has indicted a Kingsland police officer and Camden County correctional officer on three counts of providing alcohol to minors.
The indictments, unsealed Friday, are the result of an investigation into a party held April 28 at the home of Kingsland Police Officer Abraham Maldonado, 25, who has since been fired for violating the city's policy for off-duty conduct of officers. Maldonado is also charged with violating his oath to uphold the law.
Timothy Naylor, 28, who is currently suspended without pay from his job as a Camden County corrections officer, is the other man indicted.
The district attorney's office also sought a sexual assault charge against Naylor after a 19-year-old woman at the party claimed she was raped at the party. The grand jury found insufficient evidence to indict him on any sex charge.
Maldonado was hired as a Kingsland officer in June 2005. Naylor has worked at the Camden County jail since May 2005.
The alcohol charge carries a maximum sentence of 12 months in prison. Maldonado could receive up to five years in prison for violating his oath.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation led the criminal investigation in the case.
