John Dunlap

Sports Anchor, Reporter

It doesn't get more local than sports anchor and news reporter John Dunlap. A product of Orange Park High School, Dunlap joined Channel 4 in November 2004 after spending one year as the weekend sports anchor for Jacksonville's CBS and Fox affiliates.

The son of retired military parents, Dunlap served six years as a Marine, spending time with the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team and in the infantry. He also worked in public relations at the Pentagon.

Dunlap never had any inclination of working in broadcasting until he met sports director Sam Kouvaris while bartending at Frankies, where The End Zone aired in 1998. Spending time with Kouvaris convinced him to get into broadcasting, and in 2001 Dunlap graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in telecommunication.

After serving as sports director for WUFT in Gainesville, Fla., he began his professional career at the CBS affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas, before becoming sports director at WMBB in Panama City, Fla. In 2003, Dunlap returned to Jacksonville to cover what he considers to be the best area for local sports.

He has loved every minute of his time at WJXT and considers himself fortunate to be the only dual reporter at the station. When he's not working, Dunlap enjoys spending time with his wife. He also tries to keep up with his son and daughter, in addition to his football-catching dog named Bailey.

He encourages feedback from viewers, so if anyone has any story ideas they'd like to share, feel free to drop him a line.
