Home for the Holidays pet adoption event to be largest ever in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fairgrounds will be bustling with more than 1,200 dogs and cats this weekend for the Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Event.

This will be the biggest adoption event ever in Jacksonville, put on by Animal Care and Protective Services, First Coast No More Homeless Pets, the Jacksonville Humane Society and other local pet partners.

"Everyone is wearing multiple hats as we prepare for the big event at the fairgrounds while still caring for about 500 animals at the shelter," said ACPS Division Chief Scott Trebatoski. "Setting up temporary housing, putting together adoption packets, transporting animals and welcoming fostered animals back are some of the extra duties we are taking on with excitement this week."

ACPS will have a special adoption rate of $20, which includes spaying or neutering, rabies vaccinations and a microchip. Animals will range from kittens to full-grown cats, as well as puppies to adult dogs.

"Unfortunately we have had a longer birthing season this year for cats, and there has been a recent influx of dogs into the shelter as well. We would like to find homes for at least 1,000 pets this upcoming weekend," Trebatoski said. "What a great time to add a new member to the family before the holidays. We will even have gift certificates for those people who want to give the gift of unconditional love."

The Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Event will be held at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no fee for parking or admission.
